Artist Highlight: Doug Glovaski

Artist Bio: Doug Glovaski is a painter living and working in Northern California.   Born in 1951 in Saginaw, Mich., he moved with his parents to the small California town of Los Gatos when he was seven. He began drawing and painting at the age of nine and continued his studies through high school.

After school, Glovaski went into the work force where he remained for many years with several careers.  At the age of thirty four Glovaski realized that he wanted to be a professional artist.  He formulated a plan to achieve that goal. He began producing work whenever he could, usually at night and on weekends, until he had produced a large number of pieces.  Eventually his work came to the attention of a San Francisco gallery owner who helped launch his career as a professional artist.

In 1992 Glovaski met and subsequently worked for prominent New York artist Dorothea Rockburne. He assisted her with five of her large wall painting projects.  His New York experience profoundly affected his sensibilities and changed the way he approached his own work.

Doug Glovaski is the recipient of the highly prestigious Pollock/Krasner Foundation Grant. His work is in numerous permanent collections including the Achenbach Collection at the California Palace of the Legion of Honor in San Francisco, CA; the Fogg Museum in Cambridge, MA, and the San Jose Museum of Art in San Jose, CA. In 2009 he had a solo exhibition at the San Jose Institute of Contemporary Art. His paintings are included in numerous corporate and private collections throughout the U.S, Europe and Japan.
